Bob Rae decides to remain interim leader…. will not enter Liberal leadership race

Posted on June 13, 2012

Susan Delacourt asked me what I thought…. this was my email to her…

“Very sad, but totally understood.

He made clear that for him to stay there would have to be consensus within the party. He’s so right when he says that for the Party to rebuild its confidence, this period of rebuilding needs to be about optimism and good cheer, not back-biting. The divisive vitriole – particularly in the social media- from within our party was irresponsibly writing the attack ads for the next election if Bob was the leader.

Also felt a tiny bit of relief that we will have his steady hand on the tiller over the next 10 months. He’s been so strong, many of us were truly worried about having to switch to an interim interim leader. Bob’s gravitas is so important. Bob will make sure we have the party in the best possible shape for the new leader. It is about the team !!!!”
