Response to Globe and Mail

Posted on July 16, 2010

For four years Stephen Harper has been absent from the national health care dialogue, resulting in the slow erosion of care. Canada no longer has a united vision of quality care, but rather a series of individual provincial and territorial healthcare systems of unequal care and cost. The Liberal Party firmly believes the promise of universal, publicly funded, quality health care is at the core of what it means to be a Canadian. Liberals would invest in health promotion and the prevention of illnesses like obesity, diabetes and heart disease, because it will save costs and improve the health of Canadians. We would also take action to improve home care and support family caregivers, and introduce measures to attract and retain medical practitioners to rural Canada. Canadians deserve better. A Liberal government would work to enhance the quality and sustainability of our public health care system.
